USGBC Natural Talent Design Competition Winner

Sponsored by the USGBC and the Salvation Army
New Orleans, LA
Project Name: RAMPed UP

A winning entry in the USGBC’s Natural Talent Design Competition was spearheaded by four of our young designers – Yavuz Akcora, Nicholas McDermott, Shane Neufeld & Jenny Wu. The project offers a clear vision of sustainable and affordable housing for the future of New Orleans. Inspired by the Broadmoor neighborhood context, the team successfully confronted the challenge of designing an accessible building seven feet above grade; the RAMPed UP house exploits a prominent outdoor living space and an integrated ramp to engage its site and mediate between the private space of the house and public space of the street. RAMPed UP, along with three other winning designs, were exhibited at Greenbuild 2010 in Chicago. Construction began in New Orleans later that year.
