Recreating the Bellevue Men’s Shelter
Marvel has begun a Capital Project Scope Development effort with DDC and DHS to recreate Bellevue Men’s Shelter, the largest in the NYC homeless shelter system, and the intake for all single men. The project is seen as proof on concept for good shelter design as outlined in the Mayors plan “Turning the Tide on Homelessness”.
“Bellevue, a former psychiatric hospital built in 1930 that has been in poor condition, has had security challenges, is home to a large number of residents, and has been unpopular with the community. When the renovation of the Bellevue Shelter is complete, its residents should experience the benefits of a secure, well-maintained facility that is better able to accommodate their needs and better integrated with the surrounding community. Likewise, improved onsite services are being implemented to engage clients during the day, including employment and recreation programs.”
We are working with an extensive team of experts including Mr Ted Houghton, President of Gateway Housing who recently penned this op-ed piece.
