Combine security with amenity
By elevating the perimeter of the Ellipse, an earth backed wall provides anti-ram vehicle interdiction, as well as a comfortable bench that responds to the scale of the Ellipse.

Build upon lessons from history
Taking lessons from A. J. Downing's 1851 plan, new groves have been designed to replace the northern side panels of the ellipse. The four islands within Downing's side panels have been reintroduced and reshaped to solve the demands placed on 21st century public space.
